Indian captain Rohit Sharma has a chance to surpass Sachin Tendulkar’s tally of Asia Cup and Chris Gayle’s tally of most sixes across all formats

Indian captain Rohit Sharma has a chance to surpass two illustrious records in the final of Asia Cup 2023. The summit clash between India and Sri Lanka is set to take place at the R. Premadasa Stadium in Colombo on September 17. The Sri Lankan captain Dasun Shanaka won the toss and elected to bat first, meaning India will be chasing under the lights.

It was a historic occasion for Rohit as he became the 9th Indian cricketer to complete 250 ODI games. The 36-year-old has already led the Indian team to the Asia Cup title in 2018 and he has a chance of joining former captains MS Dhoni and Mohammad Azharuddin to win multiple ODI Asia Cup titles.

The Indian captain has already smashed three fifties in five Asia Cup games, and even though he got dismissed on a duck against Bangladesh in the Super 4 clash, the ‘Hitman’ has a chance of surpassing two massive records.

Sachin Tendulkar is the current leading run-scorer for India in ODI Asia Cups with 939 runs in 27 matches. Rohit needs just 32 runs to surpass Tendulkar and become the highest run-scoring Indian batter in Asia Cup games.

Tendulkar represented India from 1990 to 2012 and Rohit has played 27 matches with a tally of 939 runs. The Hitman is the fourth-highest run-getter in the ODI Asia Cups. In the current edition, the Indian skipper has 194 runs in 5 games and he will be looking to surpass Sachin by scoring more than 32.

Rohit has the chance to become the first batsman to score more than 1,000 runs in the ODI edition of the Asia Cup. Rohit also has the opportunity to surpass Chris Gayle’s illustrious record. The Universe boss has the most sixes across all formats, Gayle has 553 sixes in 483 international games.

Rohit is at 545 sixes in 449 games and needs 9 sixes to go past Gayle’s tally. The start of play in the Asia Cup 2023 final was delayed due to rain, however, the match started after 40 odd minutes and Jasprit Bumrah provided India with a key breakthrough early on.
