Akhil Akkineni’s Agent was directed by Surender Reddy.
It was reported that producer Anil Sunkara invested around Rs 80 crore in the film which failed to impress moviegoers.
Southern star Akhil Akkineni, who has been the target of criticism over the poor performance of his film Agent, was reportedly spotted at Hyderabad airport on Tuesday. According to Mirchi9, the actor flew to Dubai for a getaway. Reports of Akhil’s vacation rumors came after the actor was accused of being a box office disaster. Since the film hit theaters on April 28, he has been trolled for his performance and the script. Fans believe that like many celebrities, Akhil Akkineni also went on vacation to take his mind off the damning outcome of his new film, the publication reported.
The director of Surender Reddy would struggle to touch even the Rs 10 crore mark. It was expected to be a big success of Akhil Akkineni’s career, he would have worked very hard on it for two years. But sadly, despite bringing famed star Mammootty into a central role, Agent failed to entertain moviegoers.
The film’s producer, Anil Sunkara, acknowledged his failure and claimed it was “a huge mistake” to start a project “without a related script”. On May 1, Anil Sunkara wrote a note on Twitter that read, “We must take full responsibility for the agent. Although we know it is a daunting task, we thought of conquering but we did not succeed because we made a mistake by starting the project without a linked script and countless problems including covid have follow up.
He added: “We don’t want to give any excuses, but let’s learn from this costly mistake and see how we can turn around to make sure we never repeat the mistakes. Our apologies to all those who trust us. We will make up for the losses with dedicated planning and hard work in our future projects. Anil Sunkara is said to have invested around Rs 80 crore in the film.

Even Amala Akkineni addressed the criticism and trolling her son faced following the officer’s release. She wrote in an Instagram post that “although (Agent) has its flaws, if you look at it with an open mind, you will be amazed.” His caption alongside a motivational quote from Tim Hansen read, “I understand that trolling comes from deeper insecurities and a need for success. I watched Agent yesterday and really enjoyed the movie. Although it has its flaws, if you look at it with an open mind, you will be amazed. The room I watched it in was packed, half of the audience was ladies, mothers and grandmothers accompanied by their husbands and sons! There were screams when the action happened. And I’m sure the next one will be bigger and better.
According to a report from India Today, Agent earned around Rs 25 lakh on the fifth day, taking the five-day collections to Rs 9.21 crore. The film, aside from Akhil and Mammootty, also features Dino Morea in a prominent role.
