SS Rajamouli revealed that he was refused entry to Mohenjodaro.
SS Rajamouli responded to Anand Mahindra’s request for a film about the Indus Valley Civilization, where he revealed that he was denied entry to Mohenjodaro.
SS Rajamouli is one of the most beloved and bankable filmmakers in Indian cinema today, especially after the worldwide recognition of his magnum opus RRR. Recently, Anand Mahindra asked him to “consider” a film about the Indus Valley Civilization. Rajamouli later acknowledged the same and revealed that he had already been denied entry to Mohenjodaro during his visit to Pakistan.
Anand Mahindra took to his Twitter handle and wrote, “These are amazing illustrations that bring the story to life and fire our imaginations. Thanks to @ssrajamouli for considering a film project based on this era that will create global awareness of this ancient civilization…”.

Rajamouli then replied with the same saying, “Yes sir…While filming for Magadheera in Dholavira, I saw a tree so old that it turned into a fossil. I thought of a movie about the rise and fall of the Indus Valley Civilization, told by this tree!! Visited Pakistan a few years later. I tried so hard to visit Mohenjodaro. Unfortunately, permission was denied.”
Speaking of Rajamouli’s RRR, in 2022, the film topped over 1000 crore at the global box office. It is an epic action drama film that focuses on two real Indian revolutionaries, Alluri Sitarama Raju (Charan) and Komaram Bheem (Rama Rao), their fictional friendship and their fight against the British Raj. Alia Bhatt and Ajay Devgn made guest appearances in the film.
At the 95th Academy Awards, the magnum opus won the Academy Award for Best Original Song, beating Rihanna and Lady Gaga. At the Oscars, MM Keeravaani, who accepted the award for Best Original Song, said in his speech, “I grew up listening to The Carpenters, here I am with the Oscars.” He then added, “I had only one wish in mind, just like Rajamouli and my family’s, RRR must win, the pride of every Indian and must put me on top of the world.”
