Days after Sooraj Pancholi was acquitted in the Jiah Khan suicide case, the actor has now revealed that besides his family, it was Bollywood superstar Salman Khan who backed him up. In a recent interview, Sooraj mentioned that although Salman is not his father’s ‘friend’, he has been supportive throughout.
“I was AD (assistant director on Ek Tha Tiger and he told me he would produce my first movie. I was charged in 2013, two years before that movie (Hero) came out, and he still produced this movie and stood by. He did more than anyone for me but I know my limits and I won’t exploit that connection. I’ve met him a hundred times but never for work,” Sooraj said. at the Bombay Times.
Sooraj further revealed that Salman was the first person he texted after he was released from court on April 28 following the verdict. “He was the first person I sent a message to as soon as I left the court. He said to me, ‘Sooraj, if you know in your heart that you have done nothing wrong, you have nothing to fear,'” he added.
The ‘Hero’ actor also opened up about his acquittal in the Jiah Khan suicide case and told the entertainment portal, “I’ve knocked on everyone’s door for work for the past 10 years. Companies and studios didn’t want to work with someone who had travel restrictions and a sword over their head They wanted me to come clean first I feel reborn now and ready to work .”
Earlier this week, Sooraj Pancholi was acquitted by a special CBI tribunal in the case of Jiah Khan’s death, citing a lack of evidence against him. Sooraj was present in court with her mother, veteran actress Zarina Wahab.
Jiah Khan was found hanged in her home by her mother, Rabia Khan, in June 2013. Khan also reportedly wrote a 6-page letter describing her relationship with Sooraj Pancholi. After Jiah’s death, her mother accused Sooraj and her family of “abusing” Jiah. He was then charged with complicity in suicide. Sooraj was even arrested but later released on bail.
