India’s Operation Kaveri in Sudan has grabbed headlines as the country evacuates its citizens by the hundreds from the conflict-torn African country.
The Indian government launched the operation after the conflict started in Khartoum and other parts of Sudan on April 15. He quickly stationed Indian Navy ships and Air Force planes to evacuate Indians stranded in Sudan.
During the 8 days of Operation Kaveri, over 3195 Indians were evacuated, with the Embassy mobilizing and facilitating the movement of 62 buses from various parts of Sudan to reach Port Sudan.

Here are the main points of the evacuation operation of India Kaveri in Sudan
- The Indian government launched “Operation Kaveri” to evacuate Indians stranded in Sudan after the conflict began on April 15
- Indian Navy ships and Air Force planes were stationed for the operation
- The Indian Embassy facilitated the first evacuation of Indians in 6 buses on April 23, 2023
- The Embassy established a center at the Comboni School to accommodate the Indians and facilitated evacuation by air and sea
- The MEA team arrived in Port Sudan on INS Teg on April 25, to reinforce operations
- Currently, the Port Sudan Indian School is being used as a facilitation center
- The Embassy of India mobilized and facilitated the movement of 62 buses from various parts of Sudan to reach Port Sudan
- Indians have been evacuated to South Sudan, Egypt, Chad and Djibouti
- The embassy has also guided and helped evacuate foreign nationals, including Sri Lankans, Nepalese and Bangladeshis.
