Probably exasperated by LSG’s celebration after winning over RCB in the teams’ previous encounter, Kohli was on a mission to return it as he looked lively throughout the evening.
The former India captain’s chatter and antics prompted a response from Afghan LSG player Naveen-ul-Haq before Kohli showed the 23-year-old the bottom of his shoe in a belittling gesture. But, thanks to the efforts of Amit Mishra and the referee, the impending disaster seemed to have been put down.
But things got worse after the match ended as an altercation broke out after the usual handshake. As the teams lined up to wish each other, Kohli and Naveen came face to face and were seen exchanging words before continuing to wish their opponents.
Kyle Mayers was seen talking to Kohli before being taken away by LSG mentor Gautam Gambhir. As the RCB star appeared to be heading for the locker room, introduced by du Plessis, Naveen walked over to Kohli and escalated the situation.
As du Plessis and KL Rahul tried to diffuse the tension, Naveen was seen approaching Kohli to express his thoughts further, and that’s when Gambhir stepped in.
Despite the South African’s attempts to calm things down, Gambhir was seen facing off against Kohli, in scenes reminiscent of their infamous brawl at the 2013 IPL.
