Mumbai Indians spearhead Suryakumar Yadav and Ishan Kishan win Punjab kings

Suryakumar Yadav and Ishan Kishan notched a brilliant fifty to lead Mumbai Indians to a 6-wicket win over Punjab Kings in Mohali on Wednesday as they successfully chased the target with seven deliveries to spare.

MI skipper Rohit Sharma won the coin toss and opted to play first as PBKS opened the innings with Prabsiran Singh and captain Shikhar Dhawan coming out at bat.

Mumbai got their first breakthrough of the match as Prabsimran was caught by MI goalkeeper Ishan Kishan on Arshad Khan’s delivery in the second set. The 22-year-old Patiala-born batsman left after scoring just 9 runs on 7 balls.

Australian Matt Short came out at bat at number 3 and notched a 49-run stand alongside Dhawan before the experienced Piyush Chawla scalped the Punjab captain for 30 runs from 20 deliveries.

Liam Livingstone came on to play what would prove to be a crucial round for PBKS.

Chawla also got the better of Short in the 12th of the game by sending the Aussie back to the clubhouse after scoring 27 from 26 deliveries and Jitesh Sharma took his place in the crease.

Livingstone and Jitesh put up a stand of 119 points as they separated MI’s bowling attack. The Englishman remained unbeaten at 82 from 42 deliveries at the end of the innings while Jitesh scored an unbeaten 49 from 27 to propel PBKS to a solid 214 tally.

Mumbai went out at bat with Rohit and Kishan opening the innings for the Maharashtra team, but Rohit returned to the clubhouse without scoring after being caught by short off Rishi Dhawan.

Cameroon Green came on for Rohit and stabilized the innings alongside Kishan, before being dugouted by Nathan Ellis after managing to score 23 from 18.

Suryakumar Yadav arrived with Mumbai at 54/2 and set up an incredible partnership with Kishan as both batsmen hit the half-ton mark. The Indian duo put up a 116-point stand before Arshdeep Singh took a blinder to dismiss Suyakumar, who had racked up 66 points from just 31 balls.

Kishan only lasted a short time in the crease following Suryakumar’s dismissal as the 24-year-old returned to the dugout after falling victim to Arshdeep.

But the pair’s effort had put their team in a strong position and Tim David and Tilak Verma saw the game to pick up all the points on offer for the Mumbai franchise.
