The second part of Mani Ratnam’s Ponniyin Selvan film series is hitting box office highs. Starring an ensemble cast consisting of Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Karthi, Vikram, Trisha Krishnan, and Shobita Dhulipala, the film was widely praised by fans and critics alike. Based on Kalki Krishnamurthy’s 1955 novel of the same name, the two-part film series is a dramatized version of the life of Chola Prince Arulmozhivarman and his quest to become one of South India’s greatest rulers. . The gripping storyline of Mani Ratnam’s masterpiece has prompted audiences to flock to theaters in large numbers.
It has only been four days since the film was released on April 28, but it has already amassed an impressive collection of Rs 200 crore at the global box office. The estimate was officially announced on the Twitter page of PS-2’s production house, Lyca Productions. “Breaking down barriers and conquering the world!” PS-2 soars and crosses over 200 crore worldwide,” the production house wrote alongside a confirmation video. The film witnessed a blockbuster opening by banging over Rs 50 crore in just two days after its domestic premiere. According to trade analyst, Manobala Vijayabalan, the opening day collection of PS-2 is registered at Rs 21.37 crore in Tamil Nadu, India. It became the second best state opening film after Thunivu.

The film continued its winning run on day two by raking in Rs 115 crore at the global box office.

Another estimate from analyst Ramesh Bala claimed that the film successfully crossed the Rs 150 crore bracket by the end of its first weekend.
The successful collection should increase steadily in the second and third weekends. The first film in the franchise featured an uprising in the capital city of Crown Prince Aditha Karikalan. He assigns his friend Vallavaraiyan Vandiyadevan to investigate the problem which sets off a chain reaction of plots to be plotted against the reigning king. In the latest film, the story shows how Arulmozhivarman rises to become Rajaraja I, the greatest ruler of the Chola Empire.
