David Warner hailed the commendable efforts of Ishan Sharma whose latest exploits helped Delhi Capitals defeat Gujarat Titans

Veteran pacer Ishant Sharma and the rest of the Delhi Capitals bowlers rose to the occasion by successfully defending a 131 point target against Hardik Pandya led Gujarat Titans. Warner was full of praise for his bowlers, particularly Ishant who secured two crucial wickets including that of dangerman Rahul Tewatia.

Delhi themselves were only able to muster 130 points on the board after striking first thanks to Mohammed Shami’s fiery spell of 4/11, which also saw the Indian pacer take home the ‘player of the match’ award.

However, the DC bowlers kept their cool and helped their team to an important victory, their third this season in IPL 2023.

Speaking at the post-match presentation ceremony, Warner said Khaleel Ahmed and Ishant had done very well, with the latter in particular becoming “ever younger”.

“Khaleel has done well after coming back from injury, and Ishant just keeps getting younger. I was nervous when Tewatia left, he has a reputation for doing that kind of stuff. Anrich is our death pitcher the more consistent, but he couldn’t pull it off today. But Ishant was so clear with what he wanted to execute for us,” the 36-year-old said.

David also credited youngsters like Aman Hakim Khan who broke a fifty and Ripal Patel whose 23-run 13-ball shot helped DC to a respectable total after Shami shook Delhi’s midfield order.

“Our bowlers were amazing. Our hitters struggled, but it was the way Shami played. Credit to how Aman and Ripal played from then on to boost that score. We just find ways to lose wickets in groups, I always hate it when there’s a runout. I don’t know what’s going on with our stick. We tried to play positively today with the bat, it didn’t work. We then wanted to get out and swing the ball, get some early wickets,” added Warner.

Ishant successfully defended 12 runs in the final inning, getting the wicket from Rahul and giving up only 6 runs to earn a commendable 5 run win over Gujarat.
