Holidays May 2023: Holidays come into effect under three categories.

Public holidays May 2023: Banks will be closed for 12 days in May 2023, including the second and fourth Saturdays and Sundays. As per Reserve Bank of India (RBI) guidelines, banks will be closed on all public holidays with some regional public holidays depending on the particular state.

In addition to national holidays, each state or region has its own list of holidays, which may vary from state to state. For example, some states may observe holidays for regional festivals or important cultural events.

Holidays come into effect under three categories, including “Negotiable Instruments Act Holiday”, “Negotiable Instruments Act Holiday and Real-Time Gross Settlement Holiday” and “Close Accounts of banks”. A public holiday is effective due to the “bank account closure” on April 1, when the majority of banks across the country remain closed, while the “public holiday under the Negotiable Instruments Act” categorization records the greatest number of public holidays.

Bank customers should be aware of public holidays in May 2023 in order to make arrangements for their bank visits.

Banks are open on the first and third Saturdays of each month, while the second and fourth Saturdays are bankers’ holidays.

Banks are generally closed on these holidays and customers are advised to plan their banking transactions accordingly.

However, some banks may have certain branches open on certain holidays for urgent transactions, such as currency exchange services.
