Wasim Akram heaped praise on Rohit’s leadership attributes and was impressed with his calmness on the field.

Legendary Pakistan captain Wasim Akram feels that the current Indian team is the best batch in world cricket and Rohit Sharma is the right man to lead them. Under Rohit’s leadership, India won the Asia Cup 2023 title on Sunday with a comprehensive 10-wicket win over Sri Lanka in the final.

Before the Asia Cup, Rohit was facing scrutiny for his captaincy as India were eliminated from the semifinal of the 2022 T20 World Cup and lost the World Test Championship final this year.  However, he led the team well in the Asia Cup as they lost only one match in the tournament.

The upcoming ODI World Cup will be a crucial test as a captain for Rohit as India have not an ICC trophy in the past decade as 2013 Champions Trophy was the last time when the Men in Blue emerged victorious at the ICC event.

Akram heaped praise on Rohit’s leadership attributes and was impressed with his calmness on the field.

“What I like about him as a skipper is that he is very calm on the field,” Akram said on Star Sports.

Talking further about the Indian team and captain, Akram suggested that Rohit is very experienced and the right man to lead the best batch in world cricket.

“In general, he’s a very experienced cricketer. He’s been playing cricket for so many years and he’s the right man to lead India to the World Cup with a super-talented side, with one of the most experienced, talented and, in fact, the best batch in world cricket,” he added.

The legendary paceman suggested that everything is going in the right direction for India from Virat Kohli’s form to KL Rahul’s sensational return after a long-injury lay-off.

“Virat Kohli there is there to support his team with youngsters like Ishan Kishan. KL Rahul came back well, so everything is going in the right direction before the World Cup for the Indian team,” said Akram.

Ahead of the ODI World Cup, India will lock horns against Australia in the three-match ODI series against Australia starting September 22. The series will be the final tune-up for India before the mega ICC event which will begin on October 5 in India.
