Mohammed Siraj gifted his Player of the Match cash prize to the groundsmen for the efforts they put in throughout the tournament to make the matches happen despite persistent rain.

Team India paceman Mohammed Siraj produced a sensational spell against Sri Lanka in the final of Asia Cup 2023. Siraj displayed a masterclass of swing and seam bowling as he ended up claiming six wickets. The 29-year-old was also named Player of the Match for his breathtaking performance which blew away Sri Lanka in the summit clash in front of their home fans.

Meanwhile, apart from his on-field performance, Siraj also won several hearts for his heartwarming gesture towards the groundsmen. The premier paceman gifted his Player of the Match cash prize to the groundsmen for the efforts they put in throughout the tournament to make the matches happen despite persistent rain.

“This cash prize goes to the groundsmen. This tournament wouldn’t have been possible without them,” Hardik said in the post-match presentation.

Siraj was elated to produce a match-winning performance for his team in the summit clash as he said that in the last few matches he was bowling well but didn’t get many wickets.

“Have been bowling well since a long time. Was missing the edges earlier. But found them today,” he added.

Siraj’s 6-21 bundled out Sri Lanka for just 50 in 15.2 overs as it turned out to be an embarrassing day for the hosts in front of their home fans.

The 29-year-old also revealed what were his plans on the surface which offered swing under overcast conditions.

“The wicket was seaming earlier, but there was swing today. Thought that I will bowl fuller because of the swing.”

“When there’s good bonding between fast bowlers, it’s helpful for the team. I was thinking it would be great if I could stop the boundary. My best spell,” he added.

The Asian Cricket Council (ACC) and Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) on Sunday thanked the curators and groundsmen at Colombo and Kandy for their efforts during the Asia Cup 2023 and announced a reward of USD 50,000.

The ACC president Jay Shah took to X, (previously Twitter) and stated, “Their unwavering commitment and hard work made the Asia Cup 2023 an unforgettable spectacle. They ensured the stage was set for thrilling cricket action, from pitch perfection to lush outfield.”

“This recognition highlights the critical role these individuals play in cricket’s success. Let’s celebrate and honour their yeoman services!” he wrote on the social media platform.
