Ahead of the First ODI match between India and Australia, here’s how the two teams could line-up for the series opener.
After claiming the eighth Asia Cup title in Sri Lanka, the Indian cricket team has returned home, kicking off preparation for the all-important ICC ODI World Cup. Before going into the showpiece event, the Men in Blue will take on Australia for an ODI series on home soil. The first game of the three-match series is slated to take place at the Punjab Cricket Association Stadium in Mohali on September 22. Opener KL Rahul will be captaining the Indian side in the first two ODIs, with regular skipper Rohit Sharma being rested. This marks Australia’s second tour to India this year. Earlier when the Pat Cummins-led side came to the country, both nations engaged in a three-match ODI series where the Aussies triumphed 2-1.
The situation, however, will be entirely different this time. Team India will be brimming with confidence, thanks to their dominant show in the recently concluded Asia Cup. Meanwhile, Australia suffered enough disappointment in their previous ODI series in South Africa. They won the first two games to take a comprehensive lead in the five-match series. But the Proteas turned the table around in the subsequent games and ultimately won the home series 3-2. Australia will look to bounce back against India as a win over the hosts will definitely motivate them ahead of the World Cup.
